When outfitted with a special camera, the LPKF ProtoMat S62 automates front-to-back and multilayer alignment by locating fiducials embedded in the board layers. The PCB will always be properly aligned, if remounted, rotated or flipped. The system also uses the camera (which requires a separate USB 2.0 computer port) to automatically inspect the status of the milling bits.
